Serendipity, one of Chicago's most motivating theatrical productions, opens for its fifth annual run at The Chicago Theatre. The show will spotlight Chicago's talented seniors on stage while joining hands with the Chicago Academy for the Arts to present an intergenerational event – a fitting tribute during "Older Americans Month."
With the support of Mayor Richard M. Daley, the Chicago Department of Senior Services, and Senior Lifestyle Corporation, Serendipity raises thousands of dollars for Meals on Wheels Chicago, The Chicago Academy for the Arts and After School Matters.
Serendipity was conceived when Bill Kaplan, chairman of Senior Lifestyle Corporation, and his wife Carol attended a senior variety show during a trip to Palm Springs in 2003. The Kaplans were so impressed they decided that Chicago should have its very own show to celebrate its talented seniors. Working with Mayor Daley and the Chicago Department of Senior Services, they launched the first annual Serendipity in 2004.
