Dietary Director, Angelwood Assisted Living and Memory Care
While her recipes are the talk of the community, it’s her heart of caring that truly sets Charlotte Buttry apart at Angelwood. Her willingness to go above and beyond to make our residents feel at home earned her a nomination for this year’s Heart of Caring awards – and it isn’t the first award she’s been recognized for!
“Charlotte is very dedicated to her work here at Angelwood, along with the strong emotional connection she has with her residents. In 2013, Charlotte was awarded the Caregiver Award from the Oklahoma Assisted Living Association for going above and beyond to improve the residents’ quality of life. Charlotte comes in early to prepare her residents’ favorite dishes – she even cooks their favorite family recipes!”
Charlotte’s heart of caring not only motivates her to come in early, but also to build relationships with the residents that allow her to care for them beyond simply providing meals.
“She has [residents] bring their favorite recipes to her and she will make them. You should see how the residents beam when she does this, she is recreating their memories of the past.”
“Multiple times when the weather is getting bad she packs an overnight bag and stays here at the building so she can cook for them!”
For one resident in particular, Charlotte’s heart of caring impacted not just his time at Angelwood, but also his transition to a new state to be near his family.
“[The resident] lived here for three years, but all of his family lived in CO. He loved peanut butter pie – Charlotte would make his pie 10-12 days [in a row]! After three years, [he] decided he was well enough to make the move to be closer with his family. All of our hearts were broken; Charlotte cooked his favorite pie that day. She also has made the peanut butter pie and mailed it to CO for him.”
Although this nomination makes us hungry, we want to thank you, Charlotte, for your dedication to caring for our residents every step of their journey. Your heart of caring shines in all you do, and we’re honored to have you on our team.
