River Bend House Assisted Living
LIVE THE GOOD LIFE AT RIVER BEND HOUSE
Opened in 1997, River Bend House is the premier Assisted Living community in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Set among the schools of the local neighborhood, River Bend House offers residents a caring atmosphere, an active community, and a comfortable life. We would love for you to visit us with your family and loved ones and see for yourself!
FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND YOU
River Bend House is conveniently located along the bank of the Ohio River in beautiful Wheelersburg. Close to the historic Portsmouth murals, the Shawnee State Forest, Greenup Dam, Spartan Stadium, and Shawnee State University, there’s plenty to do with friends and family in the area! Within the community, we provide a host of dedicated services and a wide array of amenities so that each resident’s wants and needs are carefully tended to in an atmosphere dedicated to the closeness of family and friends. Residents enjoy board games, movies, cards, dominoes, and other social activities near the fireplace in our large and comfy lounge area. Our community also includes a chapel, computer room, spa, beauty salon & barbershop, courtyard, snack & hydration bar, and an elegant dining room where residents are served fresh, chef-prepared meals every day. The many activity spaces, services, and amenities at River Bend House allow our residents to kick back, relax, and enjoy themselves with friends and family.
CARE THAT’S ALWAYS THERE
Our Assisted Living residents and residents’ families receive valuable peace of mind knowing that a registered nurse (RN) and licensed practical nurse (LPN) are available 24 hours a day. Prior to moving in, we speak with you and your physician to find just the right level of assistance that will allow you to enjoy your independence to the fullest. Together, we will compose an Individual Service Plan (ISP) to guide us in assisting you. We are here to help with medication assistance, special diet plans, bathroom assistance, dressing assistance, blood sugar monitoring & insulin injections, and more as needed. We routinely coordinate with physicians to ensure that residents are receiving the care they need. Our mission is to provide a lifestyle that fosters independence, actively engages the mind, invigorates the body and nurtures the spirit while offering you and your loved ones the peace of mind you deserve.
WORRY-FREE LIFESTYLE WITH JUST A SIMPLE LEASE
While some communities insist on new residents putting down huge, non-refundable payments up-front, we like to do things a little differently. We care about not only the physical and emotional well being of our residents, but their financial health as well. That’s why we offer our residents all the perks of country club living without the expensive buy-in—just a simple lease. We accept private pay, long-term insurance, and VA Aid & Attendance.
River Bend House has 39 apartment homes to choose from, depending on availability. We have studio suites, studio deluxe suites, and one-bedroom apartments. Further detail regarding floor plans, amenities, and more can be found along the sidebar to the left.

Kelly has been working in senior care for more than six years. Her favorite part about her role as Executive Director of River Bend House has been developing close relationships with residents, families, and her staff at River Bend House.
“We are a small and vibrant community,” Kelly says. “Our residents receive the highest quality of care from a team that is able to be closely involved in each resident’s daily life.”
Kelly has been a licensed nursing home administrator (NHA) since 2010. For fun, Kelly enjoys sports, music, and spending time with her family. Kelly received her bachelor’s degree from nearby Shawnee State University, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team.

Awards for River Bend House
And the Award Goes to…
Since Senior Lifestyle was founded in 1985, our skilled and compassionate team has been helping Senior Living residents learn, grow, and connect in ways they never expected. The best part is that we learn from our residents even more than they learn from us, which might explain why our programs and services continue to evolve and improve every year. As a result of our high level of service, we’ve received official recognition over the years. While we are proud of these awards, our passion for what we do continues to drive us to improve every single day.
Awards for River Bend House
heart of caring
The most sought after honor at Senior Lifestyle is the annual Heart of Caring Award. The Heart of Caring Award is reserved for an outstanding individual who best brings the Senior Lifestyle Mission, Core Values and Service Culture to life daily within their communities. We are proud and honored to recognize the Heart of Caring Winner from River Bend House and deeply thank all of these special individuals for making a difference in the lives of our residents, bringing peace of mind to the families, and serving as role models for their peers.
Dining Team, River Bend House
One of the best parts of the 100 Days of Heart of Caring series is the opportunity to read through and craft features each day on our amazing nominees. Today’s nomination, however, speaks entirely for itself:
“River Bend House would like to nominate Judy Cooper for the Heart of Caring Award. Judy has been employed with River Bend for 14 years… Recently, Judy stepped down from her department head position to a cook working three days a week instead of four. Although Judy has cut down on the amount of time at River Bend, she has not scaled down her efforts.”
“Our values as a company include one of the most important values to River Bend House and Judy…Caring. Judy Cooper embodies this word. She has been instrumental in implementing changes to kitchen processes and the first one willing to offer ideas on how to implement them. Being a great leader comes natural to Judy, when she is in the kitchen she is in charge. The staff respects her and admires her.”
“Judy has impacted so many residents and residents’ families over the last 14 years with River Bend House. She has recreated a homemade Mac and Cheese recipe for a resident that was missing her family’s old recipe. She has “wrestled” turkeys around for several days, all to be sure that our family’s had a nice meal together for Thanksgiving. She also hosts “Cooking with Judy” on a monthly basis, where residents get to snack on sweet treats and laugh/chat with Judy. It was and is so important to Judy that our residents have great meals, because she understands the importance of food in their lives.”
“Judy Cooper has always brought a caring, positive, and joyful attitude to work. This personality of hers is what makes her such a magnet to the rest of our staff at River Bend. Judy has a knack for being able to listen to others problems or concerns in confidence. However, Judy has not been without trouble herself. Despite her typically caring and positive attitude that Judy brings to work with her, she has seen some tough days.”
“A little over a year ago, on a cold January night, Judy and her best friend on four legs, “Willie”, were abruptly awakened when a car crashed into the side of her home. A vehicle had gone off the road and hit her car parked in front of her house. The driver that lost control drove straight into the side of Judy’s house breaking items in her home and knocking picture frames off the wall. The house was knocked clear off its foundation, damaging floor joists and her heating and cooling units in her home. Her vehicle was completely totaled. Through the shock of this event and the clean up afterwards, Judy only missed her shift the morning of the incident. This occurred almost six years to the date of her late husband’s, Tom, death.”
“We couldn’t be more proud of someone to represent our community, and we believe Judy is proud to represent River Bend House.”
This spotlight is part of Senior Lifestyle’s 100 Days of Heart of Caring series featuring nominees from our 170+ communities across the country. All nominations are anonymous. Our nominees represent the backbone of our commitment to our core values: Caring, Honesty, Appreciation, Respect and Teamwork; without them, we could never fulfill our goal of providing best-in-class care to every one of our residents. Join us as we celebrate these caring, passionate individuals and their commitment to our residents.
