Bellingham Retirement Community

Grow at Your Own Pace at Bellingham

Bellingham was constructed around a quaint 18th century farm in West Chester, PA, lending the grounds a tranquil, rustic charm. After two major renovations, the farmhouse and barn are now common areas that include a dining room, living room, library and craft room. The staff at Bellingham can also now serve seniors at all care levels through the highest clinical standards and an unmatched service culture.

Kick off your shoes and stay awhile

Bellingham is the perfect choice for residents and families who are looking for a continuum of care community, in which residents can access West Chester Independent Living, Personal Care, Memory Care, or Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. A continuum of care setting offers residents and families the peace of mind of knowing that if one’s needs change—even temporarily—there is an appropriate level of care available at Bellingham.

Get involved!

Residents at Bellingham are able to forget about the tedious necessities of life and focus on exploring their interests and making new friends. The sky is truly the limit, as our Executive Chef, Programming Director and caring staff are always turning resident suggestions into reality through our “Fresh for You” dining program and life enrichment programs. Nestled on 14 rolling acres, Bellingham is minutes from historic downtown West Chester and its many boutiques, galleries, restaurants, houses, hospitals and West Chester University. On top of that, there are a number of local attractions including the Brandywine River Museum, Chester County Historical Society and the Helicopter Museum nearby. Our transportation services are always available to assist you in exploring the vibrant West Chester community.

Care that’s always there

Our West Chester Assisted Living residents and residents’ families receive valuable peace of mind knowing that a certified nurse is on staff 24 hours a day. Bellingham has Legacy Court which has a security system in place for residents with dementia—not only mild dementia. Our Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facilities include a state-of-the-art therapy gym, where residents can fulfill their personalized therapy programs. Whether you need short-term care following a hospital stay or long-term nursing supervision due to chronic health issues or disabilities, Bellingham has an excellent reputation for quality care delivered consistently to our residents.

Worry-free lifestyle with just a simple lease

While some communities insist on new residents plopping down huge, non-refundable payments up-front, we like to do things a little differently. We care about not only the physical and emotional well being of our residents, but their financial health as well. That’s why we offer our residents all the perks of country club living without the expensive buy-in—just a simple lease. We offer a variety of very spacious apartment styles and floor plans, which feature full kitchens with plenty of cabinets and plenty of amenities listed below.

Executive bio for Bellingham Retirement Community

Meet Our Executive Director

Peggy O’Neill

Peggy has over 18 years of experience working in the senior living industry and has worked at Senior Living for three of them. Her favorite part about her role as Executive Director of Bella Terra is listening to the stories of her residents.

“This great nation was built by the people who live in our community, helping them live life to the fullest is one of my greatest joys,” she says.

Peggy points to the family atmosphere of Bella Terra as what sets Bella Terra apart from other senior communities.

“Everyone at Bella Terra treats you like family.” We offer a variety of choices and encourage residents to try different activities to keep them happy, healthy, engaged and safe. We, as the staff, enjoy fostering new friendships, laughing and learning from our residents.”

Going above and beyond the clinical level of service is of the upmost importance to Peggy.

“Too often, the elderly are looked at as their ‘diagnosis’ instead of who they are as an individual,” she says. “Bella Terra takes the time to learn who you are: parents, grandparents, heroes, teachers, veterans, and so much more. We celebrate the individuality of every resident at Bella Terra.”

Peggy has worked in long-term care, residential care, independent living, sub-acute rehab, Alzheimer’s care, and Assisted Living administration prior to assuming the role of Executive Director of Bella Terra. Her hobbies include reading, travel, hockey, cooking and spending time with family. She graduated from East Stroudsburg. University.

Peggy is excited for you to experience Bella Terra for yourself!

“Not only did I find a parking spot right away, but I knew my car was safe because the spots were designated and close to the entrance. They were absolutely amazing and make others in the same field look like beginners. It is obvious that their office is cleaned regularly. It was fantastic.” – Joan

“My grandmother lived here for 4 years from 1997 to 2001. I would visit her on weekends frequently and eat meals with her. Dinners were excellent and I often had dinner with my grandmother’s friends. It was not too difficult for her and I to meet other people and everyone was very nice. There was a strong sense of community in Bellingham, which I think she enjoyed very much. There was plenty of space I she really enjoyed her time there.” – YourPeir

“I just signed a lease to move into a 2-bedroom at Bellingham’s independent living. It has a very warm feeling to it. It’s a very nice, very comprehensive facility because it has 4 different levels of care. Many of the residents I ran into are all very nice and very encouraging about moving there. My room is very spacious, has a lot of windows and it gets a lot of natural light which I like. I like that it’s on the ground floor too because I use a walker. It’s very nicely kept and well-maintained.” – Thomas6513

“I went to visit my grandmother at this community which is situated in a rural setting among farms, horses, and rolling hills. The facilities are beautiful, peaceful, and quaint. The residents were at an ice cream social when I got there, and there seemed to be many social gatherings planned which was nice. The facilities are nice and include a library, a dining room, and many lobbies that are nicely appointed. The staff is everywhere and was willing and able to help anyone out. I had encounters with both the medical office and physical therapists on site, and both were very friendly and pleasant, and had formed a personal relationship with my grandmother. I feel happy for her that she is there.” – Cody Joe
