Each June, Senior Lifestyle communities come alive with purpose as we observe Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. This annual tradition brings together residents, families, and team members in a shared commitment to raise awareness and make a meaningful impact. From bake sales and concerts to community walks, these events reflect what lies at the heart of our communities: generosity in action.
Across the country, our communities continue to discover powerful ways to express generosity through acts of kindness, storytelling and fundraising that support those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
A Decade of Impact
Since 2015, Senior Lifestyle has partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association, raising over $600,000 to fund research, support families and advance treatment breakthroughs. In 2024 alone, our communities raised $105,000. This year, with nearly $40,000 already raised, the momentum continues.
A key part of this effort is our participation in The Longest Day, the Alzheimer’s Association’s global fundraising initiative held annually on the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. The extended sunlight symbolizes the physical and emotional endurance required of those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, especially in light of a symptom known as sundowning, characterized by the way confusion and agitation increase later in the day.
By taking part in this day of action, our communities shine a light on the challenges of dementia and come together to bring hope and connection to those who need it most.
Fundraising Across Communities
In Webster, New York, residents and team members at Sage Harbor at Baywinde hosted a bake sale that raised $1,160. At North Shore Place in Northbrook, Illinois, team members took a pie to the face – all in good fun and for a good cause. The Sheridan at Green Oaks in Lake Bluff, Illinois, welcomed guests for a live concert by Bill’s Little Big Band, proving that joy and purpose make powerful partners.
The spirit of giving also lives strong at the Senior Lifestyle Chicago office, where team members are organizing an old-fashioned carnival. With games, treats and residents from nearby communities attending, the event will offer both celebration and purpose – raising vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Experience Generosity in Action
While June serves as a powerful reminder, our commitment to this cause is not limited to a single month. Across Senior Lifestyle communities, residents and team members continue to show up year-round – with open hearts and willing hands.
Every bake sale, every concert, every moment of connection brings us one step closer to meaningful progress in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Every act of generosity, no matter how small, helps light the path forward.
Thank You for Leading with Heart
To everyone who participates, donates, volunteers or simply shows up – thank you. Your generosity is making a difference, not just during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, but every day. Together, we’re building a future filled with hope and moving closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.
