Happy Earth Day from Senior Lifestyle

Today marks the 44th Earth Day since the holiday was officially declared in 1970.

First proposed by peace activist John McConnell (who also designed the flag, above) and soon thereafter made official by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, the day of celebration for our home planet and world peace has been embraced by countries across the globe.

This year’s theme for Earth Day is Green Cities. Last year, The Green Optimistic blog listed the top-10 greenest cities in the world:

1. Reykjavik, Iceland
2. San Francisco, California
3. Malmö, Sweden
4. Vancouver, Canada
5. Portland, Ore
6. Curitiba, Brazil
7. Copenhagen, Denmark
8. Stockholm, Sweden
9. Hamburg, Germany
10. Bogotá, Colombia

We at Senior Lifestyle hope you enjoy Earth Day, and continue celebrating through the week and beyond. Think of new ways to live a sustainable lifestyle, go for a walk, and enjoy the outdoors as much as you can. Because isn’t every day an Earth Day, when you think about it?
