Fun Things for Seniors to Do in Escondido

Escondido is a great location for seniors because it’s conveniently located near many enjoyable attractions and destinations. Escondido is around 30 miles northeast of San Diego. It’s also around 100 miles south of Los Angeles and around 50 miles away from Mexico. While Escondido lies inland, it’s less than 20 miles away from beautiful beach views.

For those in assisted living at Felicita Vida, the following are some of the fun things seniors can do in Escondido.

  • California Center for the Arts, Escondido: The California Center for the Arts, Escondido, is a multicultural space filled with live theater performances, museum exhibits and educational programs. The space includes a 1,500-seat concert hall, a contemporary art museum featuring up to 100 or more artworks in each exhibition, a 400-seat theater and dance and art studios. The space hosts free community events and festivals, including music series and holiday gatherings.
  • Escondido History Center: The Escondido History Center gives Escondido assisted living residents a unique view into the city’s rich heritage. The center is in the historic Grape Day Park, Escondido’s oldest park, which hosted an annual Grape Day Festival throughout much of the early 1900s and re-introduced the event in 1990. In addition to community events like car shows and movies in the park, visitors to the Escondido History Center can see exhibits on Escondido history, including the Railroad Depot Office, the Freight Room, a model train, the Bandy Blacksmith Shop, an exhibition on World War I/Spanish Flu epidemic and Escondido’s first library.
  • EcoVivarium: The EcoVivarium is a reptile attraction close to the Felicita Vida assisted living location. Visitors can tour the EcoVivarium on weekends to see a collection of rescued and donated reptiles, arthropods and amphibians in the 10,200-square foot facility, one of the largest reptile rescues in the U.S. Special experiences like private turtle feeding, snake feeding and big snake encounter tours are available, making this a great place to visit with family and grandkids.
  • Deer Park Monastery: Deer Park Monastery in Escondido offers unique mindfulness experiences in a beautiful nature-filled setting. There’s no cost to book a Day of Mindfulness, which typically includes an outdoor walking meditation, a meditation and well-being talk, mindfulness sharing and ceremony, and a mindful meal. The space also hosts mindfulness seasonal group retreats of three to five days.
  • San Diego Archaeological Center: The San Diego Archaeological Center in Escondido contains archaeological artifacts that date back 12,000 years. The center hosts adult programs and tours that offer a behind-the-scenes look at the center’s curation lab. There are also lecture screenings on the second Saturday of every month, which are included with museum admission, featuring archaeologists, authors and other experts. A walk through the museum presents historical information on the Escondido and San Diego area, covering topics like ancient pottery, anthropology and rock art.

Escondido is also home to breathtaking wineries, restaurants, a community garden and so much more. Whether you’re interested in history or you love relaxing in nature, the area has so much to offer and plenty more in nearby San Diego, Los Angeles and Mexico.
